Developers can meet goals of parallelism with suite of new products

SWINDON, UK, May 26th 2009 – Intel Corporation today announced the launch of Intel® Parallel Studio, a suite of products designed specifically for Windows developers to create, debug and optimise applications for multicore processors. The tools will help software architects, developers and innovators to meet the challenges of programming for multicore processors.

The suite will assist developers in achieving the two most important goals of parallelism: correctness and scaling. Correctness ensures that the developed application runs predictably on multicore processor systems. Scaling means that application performance increases as the number of cores available increases.

Designed specifically for use by C and C++ programmers who use Microsoft Visual Studio when creating parallel Windows applications, Intel Parallel Studio addresses the entire development lifecycle from the design stage, through coding and debugging to verification and tuning.

"Virtually all new personal computers and servers now contain multicore processors, yet applications are only just starting to appear that are optimised to make the best use of these systems," said James Reinders, Director Marketing and Business, Software Developer Products at Intel. “Simply using tools designed for single core processor systems will not yield good results. With Intel Parallel Studio, programmers get the tools they need for leading in today’s multicore world.”

Intel Parallel Studio includes:

Intel® Parallel Composer to help add parallelism to Windows applications more quickly and with better scaling using an advanced compiler and libraries.

Intel® Parallel Inspector to help find errors faster through the rapid analysis of code for threading and memory errors.

Intel® Parallel Amplifier, an intuitive performance analyser and tuner to quickly find bottlenecks and help tune applications to scale.

From May 26th 2009, Intel® Parallel Advisor Lite, a new plug-in for Intel Parallel Studio,is also available at no additional charge from Whatif.intel.com. This tool enables Windows developers to determine where adding parallelism would be most beneficial for existing source code.

Intel Parallel Studio supports Intel and compatible processors, has a suggested list price of $799, and is available from resellers worldwide. Additional information is available at www.intel.com/go/parallel.

Intel® Business Exchange brings the world’s best software to UK SMBs

Independent software marketplace to offer impartial advice and excellent prices

SWINDON, UK, May 14th 2009 – Intel Corporation today announced the launch of the Intel® Business Exchange Software Store (Intel® BX) for the UK. The Intel BX portal provides a unique single destination for small and medium businesses (SMBs) to learn about how to address business problems with software, evaluate different packages and purchase at highly competitive prices. The portal contains impartial advice from Intel and from other independent industry experts, as well as user-generated software reviews – allowing SMBs to benefit from the experiences of their peers. As a special launch incentive, users will get an additional 10% off prices until 30th June 2009.¹

Independent research commissioned by Intel has revealed that this service will meet many of the software purchasing challenges faced by UK SMBs. 71% say there’s a lack of free, independent guidance which makes buying software confusing and 80% want one convenient site where they can browse, purchase and download software.²

The launch of Intel BX in the UK, as well as Germany and France, follows the success of the US version of the site. Launched a year ago, it has already attracted a million visitors and represents a great resource for US-based SMBs, as well as a valuable channel to market for software vendors of all sizes.

“This launch represents an exciting development for Intel and for European SMBs. Intel BX provides users with a unique resource to learn about, evaluate and purchase software. It is also great for the ISV community – providing a channel to market for some of the small and highly innovative software companies who might otherwise struggle to get their products in front of such a broad audience,” said Wolfgang Petersen, Director, Developer Relations Division, Intel EMEA.

The number of software applications available in the UK store at launch is 250, with 50 participating ISVs. A full list of ISVs can be found here.

“We in Kaspersky Lab are really excited to be part of the Intel Business Exchange. It’s a very competitive environment that we operate in and this is a truly innovative channel to market. It will have great appeal to small businesses across the UK,” said Alexey Fedorov, Sales Director in Kaspersky Lab's Consumer Business Division.

“In today’s economy, the goal for corporates of any size is to maximize efficiency and save money. We appreciate the business model of the Intel Business Exchange, offering a centralised repository of software coupled with the value-add service of on-the-spot information required for purchasing decisions,” said Michael Helander, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Lavasoft. “We’re excited to join this new channel and reach new customers.”

“CyberLink is a leading software company in digital multimedia software, so it’s great to be working with Intel, another market leader,” said Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink Corp. “We are glad to be part of the Intel Business Exchange and benefit from taking our flagship software products, PowerDVD, PowerDirector, DVD Suite and more, to an even wider audience.”

Intel has worked with Avangate for the creation of the online store. Wolfgang Petersen commented: “From day one, Avangate has excelled in building this service. The team’s insight, flexibility and commitment have proven invaluable to the successful creation of three Intel Business Exchange sites across Europe. Avangate will continue to play a critical role in the success of this initiative in the future.”

²Source: Independent survey into SMB software purchasing habits was conducted in May 2009 by Redshift Research on behalf of Intel. The 285 respondents were IT decision makers working for SMBs based in the UK.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 13, 2009 – Paul Otellini, Intel Corporation president and CEO today issued the following statement regarding the European Commission decision on Intel's business practices:

"Intel takes strong exception to this decision. We believe the decision is wrong and ignores the reality of a highly competitive microprocessor marketplace – characterized by constant innovation, improved product performance and lower prices. There has been absolutely zero harm to consumers. Intel will appeal."

"We do not believe our practices violated European law. The natural result of a competitive market with only two major suppliers is that when one company wins sales, the other does not. The Directorate General for Competition of the Commission ignored or refused to obtain significant evidence that contradicts the assertions in this decision. We believe this evidence shows that when companies perform well the market rewards them, when they don't perform the market acts accordingly."

"Intel never sells products below cost. We have however, consistently invested in innovation, in manufacturing and in developing leadership technology. The result is that we can discount our products to compete in a highly competitive marketplace, passing along to consumers everywhere the efficiencies of being the world's leading volume manufacturer of microprocessors."

"Despite our strongly held views, as we go through the appeals process we plan to work with the Commission to ensure we're in compliance with their decision. Finally, there should be no doubt whatsoever that Intel will continue to invest in the products and technologies that provide Europe and the rest of the world the industry's best performing processors at lower prices."
