Chip Shot: Intel Announces World’s First 6-Watt, 64-bit Server-class SoC for Microservers

Today in San Francisco, Diane Bryant, Intel vice president and general manager of Datacenter and Connected Systems Group revealed Intel Atom processor S1200 product family – the first server-class SoC featuring 64-bit support, error code correction and Intel virtualization technologies, aimed at microservers, storage and networking systems. HP, Facebook and Microsoft executives jointed Ms. Bryant on stage to discuss how low-power processing technologies may help in lowering the power consumption and lower the TCO.  James Hamilton, CTO of Amazon Web Services shares his view on new Intel technology in his blog, while Jason Waxman, Intel general manager of Cloud Infrastructure Group talks about how Intel’s innovation in microservers started and how he sees the future of data centers.The webcast replay from the event is available here.
