Chip Shot: Intel, Broad Institute Dramatically Reduce Genome Analysis Time

What stands in the way of solving some of the toughest medical challenges? It often comes down to computational power and the speed at which technology can unravel the secrets of the human genome.  However, by optimizing the Broad Institute’s Genome Analysis Toolkit 3.1 for Intel® Xeon® processor-based servers, researchers can now analyze an entire human genome and cut the time it takes to only one day. These improvements also enable analysis of large data sets consisting of tens of thousands of DNA samples, a 100x improvement over previous iterations.
