Chip Shot: Intel Capital Makes First Investment in South Africa

Intel Capital has signed an agreement to invest $5M in JSE Listed Allied Technologies Limited (Altech), Intel Capital’s first investment in South Africa. This deal is a milestone for Intel Capital, representing the 50th country the globally-focused group has invested in. The commercial investment agreement, subject to Altech shareholder approval, is part of a strategic collaboration between Intel and Altech to help bring broadband services to millions of people in Africa. It complements Intel’s focus in sub-Saharan Africa, which already includes education and corporate social initiatives such as training over 150,000 teachers on computer skills and the integration of ICT teaching and learning in the classroom.
