Intel Technology Brings New Insights to X Games Austin

At the X Games Austin 2016 this past weekend, Intel technology helped bring fans closer to the action than ever before.

During the Intel BMX Dirt competition, riders’ bikes were outfitted with an Intel Curie-powered module to track real-time athlete data such as in-air rotations, jump height, jump distance, speed and force on landing. The data was incorporated into live broadcasts to give insights for on-air analysts to enhance the fan experience both at home and live in Austin.

The immediate data showed gold medalist Kevin Peraza soared to a height of 14 feet, 11 inches en route to landing his lawn-dart front flip while reaching a top speed of 23.9 MPH.

Intel also had a fan experience onsite that featured a drone zone where fans could fly mini drones; a virtual reality/360 experience with top X Games athletes; and booths where fans could get their faces 3D-etched into commemorative cubes or have fun with digital face painting using Intel RealSense technology. Fans could also enjoy music with DJ Obert.

Intel’s participation at the X Games Austin is a part of the company’s ongoing effort to bring a new level of insight to sports by creating smart and connected devices that can revolutionize how athletes train, coaches teach, scouts evaluate talent, and fans enjoy sports.
