Intel supports upgrade project at Tearmann Mhuire
Intel funds an upgrade project for a pathway at Tearmann Mhuire facility in Celbridge
As part of the Intel Pride of Place program, Intel has completed a project to upgrade a garden path at the Tearmann Mhuire facility, working with the Celbridge Disability Access Group (CDAG) and Saint John of God Community Services.
Tearmann Mhuire, located in Celbridge, is a residential care home for people with physical disability, intellectual disability and also have a diagnosis of dementia. The facility has an outdoor pathway that winds through a picturesque garden space. The pathway, which was previously covered in fine pea gravel, required an upgrade to improve wheelchair access for residents.
Intel funded the path upgrade project with works being completed by construction company Duffy Contractors. Funding was supported by Intel’s Fab Construction Enterprise and Corporate Services teams. The pathway serves as an accessway through a multi-purpose outdoor garden space, which includes a picnic area for outdoor gatherings.
The work to upgrade the path included scraping the top of the existing surface and applying a new asphalt surface feathered to the surrounding lawns to ensure no steps or drops were created. A new section of pathway was also constructed to connect the existing concrete path to the new asphalt pathway. In addition, the existing carpark area at the facility was extended to allow for additional visitor spaces.
The new pathway has helped to enhance a much-valued outdoor space that provides a source of enjoyment. The sounds and smells of the outdoor experience, the fresh air, the sensory garden, and the sculptures it contains are important amenities, and the new path ensures that residents who experience physical disabilities can access the space. The pathway will be enjoyed by residents, their families, and the staff at Tearmann Mhuire for many years to come.
Speaking about the project, Intel Community Relations Director Sarah Sexton said, “We are delighted to support this project at Tearmann Mhuire and to play a small role in making the outdoor space accessible to residents. The services that Celbridge Disability Access Group and Saint John of God Community Services provide to the community are invaluable, and we are proud to support them through this project”.
“We are very grateful to Intel and their partners as this space is now fully accessible to all the people living in Tearmann Mhuire. It is a great space for the people we are supporting and their families who now can now utilise this garden space and spend some quality time with their loved ones in a very therapeutic environment.
Once again, we would like to thank Intel and Duffy Contractors for the valuable input, and we look forward to working with them again in the future to enhance the lives of the people we support in St John of Gods.”
