Celebrating the festive season with our local communities
Intel supports activities for community organisations across North Kildare
The Christmas season is a special time for many and provides an opportunity to reflect, to give thanks and to celebrate. Typically, at this time of year, Intel Ireland works closely with local volunteer groups, residents and community organisations to celebrate them and recognise the impact they have on the communities around them.
During this time of year Intel supports the Leixlip Meals on Wheels group. Meals on Wheels are a voluntary organisation which cooks and delivers meals to vulnerable members of the local community. They open 4 days a week, every week of the year, and on a normal basis, they would cook and deliver around 40 meals per day. There are over 60 volunteers involved in the organisation which is split into drivers and cooks. Typically in the run up to Christmas, the Intel onsite café takes over the preparation of meals for recipients for a day to give the usual Meals on Wheels volunteers a well-earned day off. On December 11th the Intel café team prepared all the meals for delivery. Intel employees were also on hand to help deliver the meals to recipients. Intel also wanted to recognise the amazing work done by the volunteers year-round and arranged a dinner for them, with the support of The Springfield Hotel. Additionally, Intel donated €5,000 to support the Leixlip Meals on Wheels moving forward into 2025.
During the month of December Intel employees support a variety of fundraising activities and collections in support of our local St. Vincent de Paul organisations. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) is the largest voluntary charitable organisation in Ireland and focuses on providing a practical approach to dealing with poverty, alleviating its effects on individuals and families.
One of the key activities supported by employees was the donation of specially assembled gift boxes as part of a shoebox appeal for organisation. The shoeboxes were assembled for children, teenagers and adults and typically contain practical items, such as toiletries, along with toys, books and treats etc. for the recipients. The shoeboxes were donated to the Leixlip, Celbridge and Maynooth branches of the Vincent de Paul.
Intel Ireland was also proud to make a donation of €30,000 to the organisation to assist the important support they provide over the festive season in Leixlip, Celbridge and Maynooth.
This year Intel Ireland was delighted to also make a donation of over €14,000 to Leixlip Youth Project – Insync. Leixlip Youth Project is a youth project based in North Kildare for over 20 years. They are an inclusive service working with young people from different cultural backgrounds empowering young people to reach their full potential.
This year Intel also continued our partnership with Local Councilor Bernard Caldwell and Kildare County Council, providing funds to assist with the Christmas lights in Leixlip for the month of December. The lights were turned on with the local community in coordination with Christmas markets in the town.
In one of our most beloved Christmas traditions, on Thursday November 28th, the Intel annual Leixlip Senior Citizens Christmas Party took place in the Springfield Hotel. The party brings together seniors from the local community and a team of Intel employees to celebrate the festive season.
