Few community organisations have a longer connection to their local area than the Leixlip Tidy Towns group which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary. The voluntary group, who work together to ensure Leixlip is always looking its best, have been working to support the town for over six decades.

On October 8 , Intel Ireland invited members of the Leixlip Tidy Towns group, along with representatives from the wider community to an event at the Intel Leixlip campus to celebrate the special milestone. The event included an address by renowned biologist, author, and broadcaster Éanna Ní Lamhna, who provided an insight into some of the ways of increasing biodiversity in urban areas and making good use of local habitats.

As part of the celebration, a special presentation of €2000 was made by Intel to the Tidy Towns group to mark the anniversary and thank the group for all the wonderful work they do in the local area. Following the formal presentations, guests were invited for refreshments and, of course, a birthday cake.

Intel has worked in close partnership with the Tidy Towns group since first establishing operations in Leixlip in 1989.

Tidy Towns has been involved in the Intel Pride of Place competition many times, winning several grants for projects such as the Tree Trail for Leixlip and the remediation and renewal of the mass steps wildflower area.

When Intel wanted to complete a Giveback Day for a group of 200 employees to spend time in the local community, they looked to Tidy Towns who provided guidance and several practical activities throughout the town for people to support.

Intel has also worked with the group as a sponsor of the Tidy Estates competition, and most recently, Intel coordinated with the Tidy Towns on the installation of the Friends of the Rye River trail in Leixlip.

Speaking about the celebration, Director of Community Relations at Intel Ireland, Sarah Sexton, said, “Since first deciding to make Leixlip our home in 1989, we have come to appreciate just how important the Tidy Towns group is to the local area. They are an incredibly dedicated group who are at the very heart of the community. As a company with a large footprint in the area, we are very lucky and appreciative to have such a helpful, supporting and encouraging group of people willing to work together with us, to guide us and help us play our part in the wider community. We wish Tidy Towns many more years of success as an organisation”.
