Postcard from MWC 2026: A Solid 5G Foundation Today Paves the Path to Seamless 6G Tomorrow

Intel and Partners Preview a 6G Future That’s AI-ready, More Secure & Highly Efficient

This week at MWC Barcelona, attendees are streaming into Intel’s booth (Hall 3, Stand 3E31) at the sprawling Fira Gran Via convention center to learn exactly how Intel and its partners are paving the path towards a 6G-enabled future.

(MWC is the world’s largest mobile industry exhibition. This year’s event is expected to draw over 117,000 visitors, up from last year’s 109,000+.)

That path – built on a solid 5G computing foundation – underscores the next evolution of compute networks towards one that’s AI-ready, more secure, highly efficient and can be easily deployed in the real world.

On display at Intel’s booth are 14 compelling demos that showed how Intel powers commercial 5G at scale across the world’s most critical workloads – those running through worldwide mobile networks every second of every day, without any pause.

Here are three notable examples:

  1. Intel demonstrated how Intel® Xeon® 6 CPUs power Ericsson’s next generation cloud RAN servers deliver real-time 8K immersive media alongside Cloud RAN and UPF on the same CPU. No extra hardware or precious real estate footprint needed;
  2. In a nod to an AI-everywhere future, Samsung demonstrated how Intel® Xeon® 6 with E-cores is powering scalable agentic AI inferencing in the telco cloud by using live network data to optimize time-sensitive operations on existing infrastructure.
  3. Another demo underscored how Intel is driving breakthrough results in 5G core networks, delivering major power-efficiency gains and rack-level performance improvements that translate into meaningful TCO savings for operators.

“MWC is a direction-setting moment. Our focus is straightforward: help operators turn infrastructure into opportunity with an open, secure, efficient compute foundation that modernizes generation to generation — and makes AI practical without costly reinvention.”

"That’s the most credible path from 5G’s promise to 6G’s potential."

Kevork Kechichian, executive vice president and general manager of the Data Center Group.
